Welcome to Ash Creek Vineyards
Ash Creek Vineyards is located in northern end of the famous Alexander Valley in Sonoma County, in a region known as Pine Mountain. History of Ash Creek VineyardsAsh Creek Ranch’s roots trace back to the Spanish Rancho Tzabaco settlement created in 1843. Historical records indicate grapes were among the first crops planted in the area. In the 1860's, the land on which Ash Creek Vineyards is on was purchased by Samuel and Lavina Allen. Samuel gained notoriety as a deputy sheriff who was involved in a shootout with Black Bart, who was holed up in the nearby Geysers area. The land was sold in 1896 to Catherine Burgan who paid $2500 for the 233 acre ranch. The earliest evidence of vineyards on the property is a photograph from 1904 showing Catherine's son, Charles, plowing the land between 15+ year old vines on what appears to be a knoll near Jacknife Ridge Vineyard. Charles’ son has passed along the historical note that his father grew Carignane, Zinfandel, and Mission grapes that were sold to the old Ledger Winery in Cloverdale for $10.00 a ton! Ash Creek Vineyards were purchased by the Statzer family in 1989 with 25 acres of vineyard planted. The vineyard was expanded and farmed by the Statzer family until 2007, when the current owner, Mike Foster, purchased the renowned vineyard. |
